Bus Driver’s Qualifications
ï All bus drivers shall keep an accurate record of their monthly costs of operation and maintenance and submit a written report at the end of each month to the superintendent of schools.
ï Bus drivers shall be responsible for behavior of children on bus. Chronic misbehavior shall be reported to the superintendent’s office and parents of these children shall be notified that they will no longer be transported.
ï Bus drivers must keep their buses as neat as possible and buses should be swept on a as needed to basis.
ï Meetings shall be held periodically with the superintendent at which time such things as discipline on the bus, safety, maintenance, etc., shall be discussed.
ï Drivers must check buses for safety constantly.
ï Extra hours of driving to basketball games, music festivals, tours, etc., shall be designated by the superintendent of schools.
ï Buses shall be operated by the regular driver only or their assigned substitutes.
ï No person shall be assigned a bus drivers job without a physical examination.
ï Any driver not complying with board policies and safety of children may be dismissed of his duties.
ï All drivers must attend the school bus workshop.
ï Drivers must be 18 or older.
ï Speed limits of school buses shall not exceed the posted speed limit. Drivers are to drive safely to match the current road conditions.
ï All “yield right of way” signs shall be treated as stop signs.
ï Buses shall not be put in motion until all children have been seated.
ï Report violations of bus law by other vehicles, when other vehicles pass the bus while loading or unloading children or any other infraction of the state law, to the superintendent immediately. Record time, place, date, and all other necessary information. Be sure you are within the law when doing so.
ï Tobacco products shall not be allowed on school buses.
ï Adults may ride school buses to school activities providing school buses are not loaded. Adults will ride buses at their own risk.
ï All students riding to and from school and school activities on buses shall return on buses unless they have a written permit or oral directive from parent or guardian.
ï A complete written report must be given to the superintendent by each driver at the end of the school year. This report shall state the work that needs to be done on the bus during the summer months.
